Japan whaling — the world is watching

We want the world to tell Japan to stop killing whales. The Tokyo Olympics is the perfect global stage on which to do this.

In 2018 Japan withdrew its membership of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) and resumed commercial whale hunting in its territorial waters and exclusive economic zone in 2019 after a hiatus of about 31 years.

Whaling must be stopped

Whales play a key part in helping to combat climate change through their role in the marine ecosystem. They play a vital role in the health of the oceans where they help provide up to 50% of our oxygen, combat climate change and sustain fish stocks.

Blue Planet Society and our supporters are urging Japan to cease commercial whaling and rejoin the International Whaling Commission (IWC).

How to take part

Building up to and during the Tokyo Olympics 23 July to 8 August 2021 we will be peacefully campaigning in our End Japan Whaling and Save The Whales T-shirts to highlight this cruel and outdated slaughter.

We are asking people to wear an End Japan Whaling or Save The Whales T-shirt or Tops and post an image on social media platforms using the hashtags #EndJapanWhaling and #TokyoOlympics.
