More plastic than fish

‘There will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans by 2050’ – This was the stark warning from the World Economic Forum back in 2016.

Have we taken action to prevent this?

Since 2016 there have been limited bans on selected single-use plastic such as bags and straws but a quick visit to any supermarket will tell you that there’s still a long way to go.

In 2017 193 countries signed a non-binding U.N. resolution to eliminate plastic pollution in the sea. Under the resolution countries agreed to start monitoring the amount of plastic they put into the ocean and to explore ways to make it illegal to dump waste in the seas.

There is still much more we can do

Plastic use has increased 20-fold in the past 50 years and is expected to double again in the next 20 years. If we’re to stop the world’s ocean becoming a lifeless garbage dump then we will need governments across the world to get tough and pass legislation banning single-use plastics.

Blue planet Society are campaigning to get single-use plastic bans enacted across the globe. Help raise awareness and support our work tackling marine plastic pollution with this More Plastic Than Fish Hoodie, T-shirt or Top https://blueplanetsociety.teemill.com/
