Blue Planet Society

Blue Planet Society is a global pressure group campaigning to protect the world’s ocean. Conceived in 2001 to harness the burgeoning power of social media, Blue Planet Society is a new concept in environmental campaigning. By utilising effective activism, minimising the use of resources and applying the highest ethical standards, we believe our approach is the future of marine conservation advocacy.

We will never compromise our deeply held beliefs about what it will take to save the ocean. Protection of marine life will be behind our every action.

What is Effective Activism?

The global ecosystem is at grave risk of total collapse. Populations of mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles and fish have suffered an average two-thirds decline since 1970. Conservation must adapt to face this emergency. More of the same will not solve the problem.

Effective activism is maximum results for minimum use of the earth’s resources. Our highly ethical campaigning uses powerful ideas to drive social change on a global scale. We rely on highly-skilled volunteers. We do not have a head office or fleet of ships and vehicles or expensive capital equipment. We upcycle, recycle, reuse and repurpose at every opportunity. We pledge to be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Every penny we spend leads to a tangible increase in awareness of the issues facing the marine environment.

Blue Planet Society measures each action against three metrics:

Will the action achieve results?

Is the action ethical?

Is the action sustainable?
